What Happens During the Initial Consultation?
In most cases, the initial appointment consists of a consultation with a detailed examination necessary for the diagnosis and determination of appropriate treatment options. During the consultation, Dr. Mascaro discusses and explains all possible treatment options available to the patient. Generally, surgery isn’t done on the same day as the consultation.
What information should I bring for the initial consultation?
During the consultation, Dr. Mascaro examines the patient’s medical history and determines the required treatment plan. In order to save time and allow us to better serve you, we ask that you bring:
- Your surgical referral slip
- Any x-rays
- List of medications you are presently taking
- Medical or dental insurance (if applicable)
- Completed registration forms, if possible
Do you accept insurance?
We accept most insurance plans, but please confirm your coverage with us prior to scheduling a procedure. In most instances, insurance plans pay a portion of your bill. The non-covered copayment and deductible amounts are expected to be paid on the day of the procedure.
What are your procedures for Anesthesia?
You must have nothing to eat or drink (not even water) for at least six hours prior to the procedure. An adult must be present with you in order to drive you home. Prescription medications should be taken with a sip of water. If the child is under 18 years of age, a parent or guardian must be present for local anesthesia.
How long is the recovery period after oral surgery?
The recovery period depends on the extent of the surgery and type of surgery performed. In most cases, gum tissue can heal in about a month, but usually doesn’t feel uncomfortable after one week. In surgery cases involving bone, it can take up to six months or more to fully heal. In general, you should be prepared to take at least a few days off after typical oral surgery procedures.
